Punjab Provincial Transport Authority (PPTA)
Major functions of the authority are stated as below:
- Coordinate and regulate activities and policies of DRTAs
- Classification of inter district / inter provincial routes
- Grant / renewal of stage carriage ( A.C/Non A.C) route permits on inter provincial routes and inter city routes
- Route permits to cabs, rent a car service
- Countersigning of route permits of goods vehicles issued by other provinces
- Permissions to manufacturers/assemblers of rickshaws
- Quasi judicial proceedings against decisions of DRTAs
District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA)
Major functions of the authority are stated as below:
- Provision of decent public transport service within the district
- Grant/renew Route Permits
- Issue Fitness Certificate to vehicles
- Grant of licenses for bus stands of A, B, C and D categories and their regulation
- Issue licences for establishment of Body Building Workshops
- Regulate and enforce public transport fares
- Implement policies/initiatives of the government
- Summary trial of challans / prosecutions launched by MMPI/TSI and Traffic Police under MVO-1965/MVR-1969
- Route alignment for High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV)
- Recovery of route permit and fitness certificate fee
- Act as Tribunal for compensation of death/injury cases in road accidents
- Arrange transport in case of emergency where mass evacuation / transportation of goods is required
- Secretary DRTA exercises executive authority of DRTA ,arrange meetings and implements decisions of DRTA
