The Government of Punjab has officially introduced the Rahmat Card Program, a specialized social safety net designed to provide critical financial security to widows and orphans across the province. This flagship initiative underscores the government’s commitment to institutionalizing welfare by moving beyond ad hoc charity toward a structured, dignified support system. With an initial budgetary allocation of Rs 5 billion, the program aims to mitigate the economic hardships faced by the most marginalized segments of society, ensuring they have the resources necessary for a self-sufficient life.
Under the first phase of the Rahmat Card, the program aims to support 50,000 families. Eligible beneficiaries receive a substantial grant to foster economic independence: widows are provided with Rs 100,000, while additional support of Rs 25,000 is provided per orphan child (up to a maximum total of Rs 150,000 per family). The disbursement process is fully digitized and transparent, utilizing biometric verification through the Bank of Punjab and JazzCash to ensure that funds reach the intended recipients directly and securely.
To ensure nationwide accessibility, the government has integrated the Rahmat Card with the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER) for merit-based identification. Residents can apply through a dedicated web portal, a mobile application, or by visiting local Zakat and Ushr offices.
