Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that child labour is a socio-economic issue with multiple factors behind it. In his message, the Chief Minister said that child labour is a criminal offence as children are like flowers and protection of the rights of the children is a collective responsibility of the society. Children are national asset and giving attention to their upbringing and education is a responsibility of every person, he said. Child labour can be eliminated through consistent efforts and the people should also realize their responsibility in this regard. He said that comprehensive steps have been taken to overcome this menace through effective legislation. Complete elimination of child labour is our mission and every effort will be made in this regard so that the children could remain safe from this social menace, he added. This day requires that every segment of the society should play its effective role to save the society from the menace of child labour. The purpose of observing this day is to educate the people about the hazardous effects of the child labour. We should also reiterate our commitment and accelerate our efforts of eliminating the child labour from the society, the Chief Minister concluded.
