Hiring of surgeons, physicians and paramedics from the US and other countries for Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplantation and Research Institute (PKLI) is under way. “These highly trained people are being offered market-based and incentivised pay packages,” PKLI President Prof Dr Saeed Akhtar informed a meeting held here on Thursday to review progress on the institute project. He said Pakistani doctors working in the UK, the USA and other developed countries would start coming to the institute by the end of October. The meeting was informed that the first phase (package-I) of the project would be completed by the end of November. Ducting for Heating, Ventilation and Cooling (HVAC) system was being done while gray structure has been completed. Construction of boundary wall was in final stages. The mosque, bazaar and patients tower were also being constructed while the procedure for the procurement of ventilators, dialysis machines, CSSD, laundry, MRI, laboratory, machinery for robot surgery and other state-of-the-art biomedical equipment was under way. Prof Akhtar said PKLI would be a poor-friendly institution. Treatment and transplantation facilities would also be offered to the rich and resourceful people to generate financial resources for the institute. The resources thus generated would be spent on the treatment of the poor patients.
