03/12/16

Special persons suffer more due to negative social attitudes than their physical disability and their rights are violated mainly at their homes where their parents adopt a discriminatory attitude to them and they are deprived of healthcare, education and other basic necessities. Punjab government is striving for provision of equal opportunities of education, health, vocational training and business to the handicapped persons and awareness campaigns are launched at public level for this purpose.

These views were expressed by Provincial Minster for Finance and Vice Chairperson Punjab Social Protection Authority Dr. Ayesha Ghaus Pasha at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Lahore Businessmen Association for Rehabilitation of Disabled (LABARD) and Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) in connection with international day for the disabled, today. The Minister said that government has evolved a policy for rehabilitation of disabled persons under which provincial government with the collaborations of its private partners especially LABARD will provide services to handicapped persons such as training, education, vocational training, financial assistance as well as interest-free loans for business. She said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif is taking keen interest in the solution of problems of special person and the agreement with LABARD is a step in this direction. General Secretary LABARD Muhammad Saeed Khan and Director Khidmat Card Programme of PSPA Mirza Naseer Anayat signed the MoU in the presence of Chief Executive Officer PSPA Dr. Sohail Anwar.
