Punjab Adolescent Strategy and Strategic Plan

The Government of the Punjab Department of Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism in collaboration with UNICEF developed the Punjab Adolescent Strategy and Strategic Plan, 2013-2017, through a multipronged and participatory approach involving the relevant government line departments, civil society organizations and most importantly the adolescent boys and girls from Punjab.

The Draft Strategy has been developed under the umbrella of the ‘Punjab Youth Policy 2012’ and provides a road map for the implementations of initiatives and activities that can help meet the needs and rights of the adolescents of Punjab. A validation workshop was also conducted to validate the draft strategy from the people initially consulted with to come up with this final strategy document.

The Draft Strategy highlights important issues such as protection of Adolescents from all forms of violence, abuse and exploitation (early child marriages, child labour etc), the strategic priority areas and outcomes for 2012-2017, and the institutional set up for the implementation of the action plan. The special focus of the strategy is the marginalized adolescents and to cater to their special needs such as children with disabilities, minorities and transgender.
