Conference on Data & Privacy Protection Procedures Held in PSCA

Punjab safe cities authority arranged one-day conference on ‘Data & Privacy Protection Procedures (DP3)’ in PPIC3 headquarters here on Thursday. The conference was attended by the prominent lawyers, legal fraternity and scholars from around the country. Chairman Judicial Commission for Environment Justice (R) Ali Akbar Qureshi, Prof. Amirullah Khan Niazi from PU, DIG-IT Ghulam Mahmood Dogar, Former Chairman Punjab Bar Rai Bashir, Former Secretary Pakistan Bar Asad Manzoor Butt, Advocate Supreme Court Shahid Ahmed Paracha, Advocate Supreme Court Imtiaz Ahmed Kamboh, Sargodha University’s professor Saqib Ahmed, former additional advocate general Punjab Ahmed Rauf, former Assistant Advocate General Punjab Adnan Tariq and Assistant Advocate General Punjab Zafar Ahmed Sukhera participated in the privacy conference. Managing Director Malik Ali Amir briefed the participants about PSCA privacy policy in detail along with COO Akbar Nasir.

The managing director told the gathering that police communication officers deputed in PSCA have limited and controlled access to data. All cameras installed in the city monitor only public places, he added. Mr Ali Amir said that due to specific angles of CCTV cameras, nobody can monitor private/residential areas or private gatherings. All the officials of the Authority are constantly under the supervision of senior police officers. Sensitive cases are supervised directly by senior officers, he added. The chief operating officer said that the authority guides the field force in matter related to prevention of crimes and effective emergency response. Justice (R) Ali Akbar Qureshi expressed his views at the Data Privacy Conference, saying that the authority's steps to secure the data were satisfactory. Legal experts praised the efforts of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority and said that more awareness about privacy needs to be spread at the public level.
