Medical Universities/Colleges Should Take Immediate Steps to Improve Performance of Allied Hospitals.

Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah has directed the concerned officials to take steps for bringing immediate improvement in the allied hospitals attached with the medical universities/medical colleges. He added that people should be accorded opportunities to take benefits from resources and facilities of the attached hospitals and immediate steps be taken regarding recruitment/posting of specialist doctors and other staff.

He stated this while presiding over an emergency meeting held in his office, here today as a follow up to his surprise visit to Government Teaching Hospital Mozang and Lady Wellingdon Hospital. Special Secretary Health Dr. Sajid Mehmood Chohan, Special Secretary Development Usman Mouzam, Additional Secretary Admin. Raja Mansoor, Additional Secretary Development Shahid-ur-Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Abdul Haq Bhatti, VC King Edward Medical University Prof. Dr. Qazi Saeed, Chief Executive Mayo Hospital Prof. Dr. Asad Aslam Khan, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, MS Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Dr. Fayaz Butt, DG Information Technology Project Management Office Faraz Haider, Consultants Dr. Zahid Pervaiz, Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore and Medical Superintendents of Government Nawaz Sharif Hospital Yakki Gate, Government Kot Khawaja Saeed Hospital, Lady Wellingdon Hospital, Lady Aitcheson Hospital, Government Shahdara Teaching Hospital, Government Said Mitha Hospital and Government Teaching Hospital Mozang attended the meeting. Secretary Health expressed his strong indignation over the poor working conditions of Mozang Teaching Hospital and observed that the hospital affairs have been neglected by the concerned authority and the resources are not properly being utilized to provide better healthcare services to the patients. He directed that affairs of all the allied hospitals in Lahore should be improved within one week. He lamented that during his surprise visit to Government Mozang Hospital last night, many of the beds were found empty while senior medical officer was also absent from duty. He said that on one side Mayo Hospital and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital are overloaded with patients’ burden especially the females don’t get beds in gyne wards and on other side the resources of allied hospitals attached with the large hospitals are not being fully utilized. He said that teaching faculty should accept its responsibility to run the respective allied hospitals according to their capacity and directed that every medical university and college should hold meetings fortnightly with the MSs of the concerned hospitals to remain aware of the situation as well as to monitor the performance of the allied hospitals. The report of this meeting should be sent to the Secretariat as well, he added. Najam Shah said that he will monitor the situation in any of the attached hospital after one week by conducting a surprise visit there.
