Punjab police will provide necessary assistance to Punjab Food Authority (PFA) teams during raids against adulterers, unhygienic eateries and food-related business people in across the Punjab here on Tuesday. 

In this regard, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Arif Nawaz has ordered Capital City Police Officer Lahore, all regional police officers, all city police officers and all districts police officers in Punjab. This notification has been issued in the wake of recent mishandling of PFA team in Ghala market (grain market) Multan where mafia attacked the raiding party. 

According to notification, the IG Punjab has said PFA is taking steps to check the supply of substandard, adulterated and unhygienic food items. In this Connection, the authority has constituted various teams which are engaged in conducting raids at various eateries, restaurants, and food products producing units across the province. 

The notification stated as it has been directed to render necessary police assistance to the teams of PFA in the discharged of their official functions, as and when required. PFA Spokesman welcomed the move by Punjab police and termed it as good omen for future PFA raids. He said that IG Punjab's Police have ensured full cooperation during raids. He said that PFA is recruiting field guards to protect the field teams. He said PFA is fully aware about the level of resistance faced from the mafia on raiding teams adding that PFA will take all measures to protect and secure their staff.
