The Punjab Assembly has unanimously approved amendments in Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965. Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit on Law & Order Salman Sufi informed that two bills pertaining to reforms were presented in the Assembly for the final vote today. He said that Chief Minister had approved in principle these amendments suggested by SMU in March 2015. According to amendments in Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, registration book in Punjab will be replaced with Automotive Registration Card (ARC). Similarly, vehicles kept in another province for a period exceeding 120 days would have to reregister with the concerned Motor Registering Authority. Moreover, at the time of vehicle transfer, the transferor (Original Owner) will remove the license plate for the motor vehicle and the buyer will have to get a new license plate and a certificate of registration. Under the second amendment, official number plates issued by the government have been made mandatory while fabrication of plates has been declared cognizable offense. Manufacture of fake number plates shall be imprisoned with a term which may extended to one year but which shall not be less than seven days and with fine which may extend to one lakh rupees. Similarly, the violator shall be imprisoned with a term may extend to two years but which shall not be less than 15 days and with fine which may extend to two lakh rupees but which shall not be less than thirty thousand rupees.
